Using Discount Codes with TickX

Set up, manage, and optimise discounts in TickX for seamless customer redemptions and accurate reporting.

This guide explains how to set up and manage discounts in TickX, including how they sync with your ticketing system and how customers can redeem them through purchase flows, calendar inputs, or checkout fields. It covers best practices for testing discount codes, applying discounts automatically through unique purchase flows, and using advanced parameters such as ticket-type restrictions or minimum quantities. You’ll also learn how to handle more complex mechanics, and when to consult your account manager for configuration support.

Getting Started

When you first start working with TickX your account manager will discuss with you how your discounts will pull through.

Depending on your Ticketing System we may manage discounts in different ways:

1) We can automatically import discount codes, so you need to take no action.

2) When you create a discount in your system you will need to let your account manager know the offer code and metrics so we can set this up on our side to reflect.

Before going live with TickX it would be useful to provide some sample discount codes so we can test everything is working as expected.

How can Customers Redeem Discounts Through TickX?

Your customer can redeem discounts in a few ways:

Purchase Flows

Applying a discount code to a purchase flow means that the customer can redeem their discount by simply clicking on the purchase flow link. This means that the customer does not need to worry about remembering and inputting a code. Purchase flows are easy to set up and you can find a guide to set up here

Using purchase flows to manage discounts has further benefits as you can create additional parameters that might not have been possible in the underlying ticketing system. This could include only applying the code to certain ticket types or ensuring that a minimum number of tickets must be bought for the code to apply.

Because customers don't see the code, you can also recycle the same code for multiple different flows and promotions, and track sales via the flow reporting in the dashboard. This reduces admin overheads and keep reporting simple.

Discount Code Input at Calendar

We can also enable a discount code input below the calendar. We add this at this stage so that customers are not distracted by discount boxes during checkout. This also means that customers can see the discounted rate from the calendar/seatmap onwards rather than it only applying in checkout.

Discount Code Input in Checkout

We can also enable discount code input during ticket selection, for non seatmap clients. Depending on the ticketing system we can also add a discount code input in checkout. We would recommend doing this if discounting is a large part of your strategy and codes are shared offline, so using solely purchase flow links is not possible.

Please confirm with your account manager if this is possible with your ticketing system integration.

Do all Discounts Work?

TickX will reflect what the underlying ticketing system can do, although in some cases we can achieve some extra flexibility.

However, if the ticketing system cannot set up a discount type, TickX also will be unable to.

In these instances there may be a way to set up special cheaper ticket types that can be hidden and unlocked with a code, but your account manager can run through this in more detail and help find the best route forwards.

There are also some offer mechanics which are challenging.

For example buy x tickets and get a discount on one or some of them such as buy one get one free offers. In this instance we would recommend enforcing purchase of 2 or more tickets and applying a 50% discount on them all.

If you require discounts to stack (i.e. multiple discounts to apply on top of each other) please also contact your account manager to see if this is possible with your integration.

We have a highly flexible system for discounts and can support the majority of mechanics including fee only discounts, and limits by ticket type etc.

However please contact your account manager to discuss if you want to achieve something complex and they can advise on the best route.
