MailChimp Email Trigger

Connect Mailchimp with TickX IQ to automate event-based email triggers via Mandrill.

How to set-up your MailChimp Integration so you can trigger event based emails. You can find out more about email triggers here.

Note: Before you get started you need ensure that your from email is approved and authenticated; Verify Email Address. Also, that you have transactional email add-on enabled within your MailChimp platform; Transactional Email MailChimp Guide.

 

  1. Go to Integrations Hub > Messaging > MailChimp Email Trigger> Add Details
  2. Add Integration Setting Details
  3. Enter API Token
    • Login to MailChimp
    • Go to Transactional Email > Launch App
    • Once in Mandrill > Go to Settings > SMTP & API Credentials > Add New API Key
    • A new API Key will be created → add this into API Token field in TickX IQ
  4. Add Sender Name - This is the 'From Name' you would like your emails to come from
  5. Add Sender Email - This is the 'From Email' you would like your emails to come from
  6. Toggle Active On - Save. Your Integration is now set-up.
  7. Add New Email
  8. Add your email name - as you can have multiple email triggers set-up this is a way to differentiate the email trigger list. E.g. Know Before You Go 
  9. Select Type > This is to determine after which event type you would like your email to trigger. E.g. Pre-Event
  10. Add Template ID
    • Go to MailChimp > Content > Email Templates > Create Template Please Note: You need to create your email template within ‘Classic’ Builder so that you can send the template through to Mandrill.

    • We have some additional merge fields which can be added to your templates to provide some individualised information to your customers.

        If you are using a MailChimp generated template -  just need to add the Preview Text in TickX IQ field

        If you have created your own template; go to the Mandrill Template and add in some code: Transactional Email > Outbound > Templates > Edit

        In the your email code, locate or add

        tags and add this code to the "style type" 

        value: .mcnPreviewText{display: none !important;}

        Insert this code after the opening `` tag in your HTML:

               

        The **IF:MC_PREVIEW_TEXT** conditional tag looks to see whether you’ve set your preview text in the builder. The **if !lgte mso 9** tag helps ensure your preview text displays properly in Outlook. And the **span** tags ensure that your preview text isn’t visible in the body of your campaign.

    • Save your template & send to Mandrill
      • Go to Campaigns > Email templates > Select template drop-down > Send to Mandrill
    • Got to Mandrill > Outbound > Template > Select Template

    • Copy Template Slug → add this into Template ID field in TickX IQ
  11. Add Preview Text
  12. If you are using the Generative Merge fields within your content then please make sure you select these within TickX on set-up (speak to your account managers to ensure you have these set-up to function).
  13. Add Time Interval - Minutes or Hours
  14. Add Time Value (Numeric) This is how many minutes/hours you would like to trigger the email either before/after the Event Type.
  15. Advanced Options 
    • You can segment who receives certain content based upon our Advanced Options
    • For example; you might have different Know Before You Go content to send customers attending Mid-Week from those attending at the Weekend. These advanced options allow you to trigger more specified content to your attendees.
  16. If you want to send a test before toggling to Active > Save > Go to Actions > Send Test Email
    • Enter the email you would like to send the test to
    • If the email is set-up correctly you will get a copy of the email in your inbox
    • If there are any issues you will receive a TickX email highlighting the error
  17. Once you are happy > Go to Actions > Edit > Toggle Active On > Your email will now start triggering once the criteria is met.
